The Columbus String Quartet was founded to perform beautiful, live music at a professional level that will help set the right mood for weddings and other important events. Each of the members of the quartet are professional musicians and also have long-standing careers as professional music educators and fully understand the responsibility involved in performing for your special day.

Meet the Musicians

Charles Laux, Jr., holds degrees in music education from Ohio University and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. A fifteen year veteran in the music education field, Mr. Laux currently serves an orchestra director and itinerant string instructor in the Hilliard City Schools. For the 2007-2008 school year, Mr. Laux served as as a graduate teaching associate in strings and as a full-time Ph.D. student in residence at The Ohio State University under the supervision of world renowned string pedagogue, Dr. Robert Gillespie. Currently a Ph.D. candidate, Mr. Laux is majoring in Music Education with a minor in Educational Technology.

Prior to his arrival in Ohio, Mr. Laux spent eleven years as an orchestra director in school districts centered in Las Vegas, Nevada and Orlando, Florida. In addition to public school teaching, Mr. Laux served an adjunct faculty member atValencia Community College (Orlando, FL), the College of Southern Nevada, and the University of Nevada – Las Vegas.

Mr. Laux has presented educational sessions at Florida Music Educators State Conferences (2004-2007), the Ohio Music Educators State Conference (2008-2010), and national ASTA conferences (2005-2010). He has performed with the Las Vegas Philharmonic, the Nevada Chamber Symphony, and several other orchestral ensembles. He also continues to teach privately and freelance on violin and viola in the Central Ohio area.

Mr. Laux is the owner of Laux Services LLC and serves as the business manager and web designer for the CSQ.

 

Gretchen Zunic is in her eighteenth year of string teaching and is currently a string specialist with theUpper Arlington City School District. She holds a B.M. from Bowling Green State University and a M.M. from The Ohio State University where she was recognized with the Outstanding Graduate Achievement Award. In 2002 she was a recipient of the Golden Apple Award for outstanding excellence in education from the Upper Arlington Schools. Bowling Green State University named her an Accomplished Graduate in 2008. She has performed with the Lima City Symphony and the Westerville Symphony Orchestras.

 

Tricia Laux is the orchestra director at Davis Middle School in Dublin, OH. Mrs. Laux most recently taught strings in central Florida. She was the orchestra director at Chain of Lakes Middle School in Orlando for one year before moving to Ohio. She also spent four years teaching strings and general music at Rochelle School of the Arts, an arts magnet in Lakeland, Florida. While at the K- 8 school, she established the “Swinging Strings” fiddle group, which performed at the 2006 Florida Music Educator’s State Conference. She was also named “Arts Teacher of the Year” in 2006 while at Rochelle. In addition, she has served as a clinician and certified adjudicator throughout the state of Florida.

Mrs. Laux has presented clinics at the state and national levels, including two presentations at the American String Teachers Association (ASTA) National Conference in 2007. She has served as state secretary and most recently, as president-elect for the ASTA Florida chapter.

A proud graduate of the University of Florida, Mrs. Laux completed her bachelor’s degree in music education and a master’s degree in Educational Policy and Leadership at The Ohio State University. Mrs. Laux is a member of ASTA, OMEA, MENC, and the UF Alumni Association.

Ed Zunic, a cellist, holds undergraduate (1989) and graduate (1995) degrees from Bowling Green State University. He has served as the OSTA Middle School Camp Director, OMEA Creative Events Chair, OMEA Orchestra Affairs Chair, and Upper Arlington High School music department chair. His past employment includes: Ector County Schools (TX), Lima City Schools (OH), and Newark City Schools (OH). Mr. Zunic is currently an OMEA Adjudicator, a middle school and high school orchestra director for the Upper Arlington Schools, the IB Music teacher for Upper Arlington High School, and a National Board Certification candidate. His awards include: “One of Five People to Watch” by the Upper Arlington News, OSTA “Public School Teacher of the Year”; and BGSU “Distinguished Graduate”. Mr. Zunic’s original compositions and arrangements: “Presto” from Moller’s String Quartet No. 6, “Festive Dance for String Orchestra”, “Una Noche Caliente,” and “Backyard Swing”; are published by Latham Music. He is a frequent guest conductor and orchestra clinician.

 

Not only do we perform together, we are also happily married couples!

The difference: We are not a “throw together” quartet – we rehearse regularly and don’t substitute musicians. The quartet members on this website are the ones who will be performing for you. Because of this, you can rest assured that we will be reliable and provide a quality performance.
